Champion and Serve with Your Creative Work

MONDAY’S TAROT MESSAGE FROM THE MUSE

Theme, Knight of Wands. Wands is the element of Fire in the realm of spirit, creativity, career and work. The Knight is the champion, the one with the training and resources who can go out into the realm to do battle, to serve and protect. This week, look for opportunities and ways that you can, through your work, serve your tribe or community. The power of images and words and music is no small thing. Serve your creativity, then serve your community.

Focus, Faith. This Major Arcana card is called Faith but speaks to the idea of connection to something beyond oneself. How does something beyond you inform and inspire your work? How does your work inform and inspire others? How does it create a vision of something greater than? And what practice or what spiritual discipline is required in order to stay connected to your creative source?

Action, 5 of Wands. Again, Wands representing spirit, creativity, career and work. Five is a number of change and challenge, and here the challenge can be both the roles you play in your life and the creative projects demanding your attention. By establishing priorities for roles and projects, you minimize or end the internal battles. Make a list, set priorities, then give your energy and passion to those top priorities this week.

Gift, Temperance. This Major Arcana card is about change and transformation through the combining of apparent opposites, water and fire. Steel is shaped and strengthened by first being heated in the flame of the forge, then hammered, then cooled in water. There is a balance at work here, especially a balance of creative forces. The gift this week is an ability to see your creative work and energies from a higher perspective, and to understand how the active and intuitive balance each other and temper you and your work.

**Side note: I can’t ignore all the fire energy of these cards. We are in the fire sign of Leo with a significant solar eclipse happening in the U.S. this month. But I am also aware of the fire of anger, and the heat of hatred and violence that was displayed this past week in Charlottesville, VA. I see the tarot as talking to us this week about the role of art to serve and heal and even protect. And about the balance between passion and compassion that is the gift of creativity. Stay connected to that this week. And maybe, each of us, in our creative work, will serve to create a better vision, reduce violence, and bring healing.
